By way of introduction, we are two brothers of a certain (advanced) age. You can call us Herkimer and Homer. These were the fanciful names concocted by our father when he used to spin us stories of a couple of adventurous brothers
who roamed the world performing feats of derring-do, traveling by every conveyance imaginable. Coincidentally, the protagonists were exactly our ages, three and five years old. The photo below captures us as we set forth from our house on Mary Lane, loins girded and plans well-laid, to embark on some exploit or other.
In March of 2020, we were about to embark from Split on a ferry bound for Ancona, whence we intended to travel by train to Lucca. Intrepid travelers that we are, only an event as cataclysmic as a world-wide pandemic could have blown us off course. You’ll never guess what happened next!
You will find an account of our previous sojourns in Europe, our thrilling escape from Croatia, and our enforced confinement back in Washington D.C. and Seattle, by clicking the tab "Gerontology Chronology." Use the drop-down menu to follow our subsequent sojourns year by year.
” But for now, we are on the road again...
